Follow these instructions:

1 THE GAS EXCHANGE SYSTEM

By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

a- Identify in diagrams and name the larynx, trachea, bronchi, alveoli and associated capillaries.
b- Describe the structures named above.

Activities:

1) Watch this video

2) Read pages 118 and 119 from the textbook and answer the summary questions 1 and 2 from page 119.

2 GAS EXCHANGE

By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

a- Compare the composition of inspired and expired air.
b- List the features of gas exchange surfaces.
c- Describe gas exchange at the alveolus.

3) Try the test
4) Read pages 120 and 121 from the textbook.
5) Answer the Summary questions from page 121.

3 BREATHING

By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

a- Describe how volume and pressure changes lead to ventilation of the lungs.
b- Explain the role of mucus and cilia in protecting the respiratory system from pathogens and dust particles.

Activities:

1) Watch this video
2) Read pages 122 and 123 from the book:Inspiration and Expiration. Pay special attention to the Figures.
3) Answer the summary questions questions 1 and 2
4) Watch this video

5) Answer the summary question 3 from page 123

FINAL ACTIVITY

Answer questions 4, 7 and 8 from pages 128 and 129.

FINAL REVISION

It branches from two bronchi which enter each lung. These continue to divide to from many small bronchioles, which end in tiny sacs called alveoli
